
Orange Hosts CNY Doubleheader

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Drumlins Tennis Center will play host to a CNY tennis doubleheader with Syracuse (2-1, 1-0) taking on two foes, Binghamton (0-0) and Colgate (0-0). The Orange's match against the Bearcats begins at 3 p.m. with the matchup against the Raiders immediately following at 7 p.m. Syracuse is 1-0 at home this season after defeating BIG EAST foe Georgetown last Sunday, 5-2. Last season, the Orange remained undefeated at home with a 9-0 record at Drumlins. Admission to the matches is free.
Syracuse Goes 2-1 on Opening Weekend
Last weekend marked the beginning of the Orange's 2011 season and the team faced three opponents over three days and came away with a 2-1 mark. SU was on the road to start the weekend and won a convincing match against Navy, 6-1. The team lost to Maryland, 7-0, on Saturday before returning home to beat conference rival Georgetown on Sunday with a 5-2 victory.
Jensen Reaches 60 Wins
With last weekend's victories, Head Coach Luke Jensen reached the 60-win milestone, becomming the fourth coach in SU history to accomplish such a feat. In just five seasons, Jensen has amassed a 60-34 overall record and a .638 winning percentage, which places him first all-time among SU coaches in program history.
Fantastic Freshmen
The three freshman members of the 2011 Orange are already making some noise. Aleah Marrow (Durham, N.C.) has the best overall record on the team so far with a 4-2 mark. Eva Raszkiewicz (Brooklyn, N.Y.) is close behind her with a 3-1 tally and Maddie Kobelt (New Albany, Ohio) is tied in third at 3-3. Marrow had a strong opening weekend, going 2-1 in both singles and doubles. Rasziewicz went 2-1 in singles and 1-0 in doubles while Kobelt had a strong showing in singles, going 2-1. Combined, the freshman are 10-6 this season.
Harman Reaches 70-Win Milestone
With her two victories at Navy, junior captain Emily Harman surpassed 70 overall wins in her career. The Petersburg, W. Va. native currently owns an overall career record of 71-36. So far this season, Harman has tallied a 2-1 record at the No. 3 singles position and also added a doubles victory at Navy last weekend.
Orange Defeat BIG EAST Foe Georgetown
Syracuse beat Georgetown, 5-2, in its home-opener last weekend at the Drumlins Tennis Center. Despite losing the doubles point, a strong showing in singles helped the Orange to victory. With the victory, Syracuse extended its win streak against Georgetown to 31 years.
