SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The women's soccer squad has five events on its spring schedule, starting this Saturday when the Orange takes on Women's Professional Soccer's Western New York Flash and the world's top player, Marta, in Buffalo. Syracuse concludes its spring season by hosting Central New York foe Colgate on Saturday, April 16.
The Orange travels to Buffalo to face the Flash at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Flash, which acquired five-time FIFA Player of the Year Marta in January, joined Women's Professional Soccer as expansion club in September, 2010. Saturday's game will mark the first time in program history that Syracuse has faced a professional team.
“The game against the Flash is a great opportunity for our players to play against the level of competition that they aspire to reach,” said Syracuse head coach Phil Wheddon.
On Saturday, April 2, the Orange hosts Canisius and Binghamton. Each team will play two 60-minute contests. Syracuse and Canisius play at 1 p.m., followed by Canisius and Binghamton at 2:15 p.m. In the final match of the day, SU takes on the Bearcats at 3:30 p.m.
Syracuse hosts Buffalo at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 3. The Orange travels to the University of Albany for a tournament on Saturday, April 9. In its final game of the spring season, SU hosts Colgate on Saturday, April 16 at noon.
The Orange finished the 2010 season with its most wins since the 2007 season. Syracuse also posted its best start in BIG EAST play when it won its first two conference games of the year.
