
Orange Hosts Bearcats Thursday

The Syracuse University softball squad will take a break from BIG EAST on Thursday, April 28 against instate-foe Binghamton in a nonconference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at the SU Softball Stadium. Live statistics are also available on SUAthletics.com and on your phone at SUAthletics.com/sbmobile. The Orange (31-11) has won seven of its last eight. The Bearcats (20-15) have won their last three games.
The Orange has been offensive powerhouse, averaging 5.6 runs per game. SU has seven players hitting better than .300, including senior third baseman Hallie Gibbs. Gibbs went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs and one homerun in SU's 9-0 against Georgetown last time out. The Munster, Ind. native is hitting .330 with 36 hits, a team-high 11 doubles, eight homeruns and a team-best 43 RBI. Junior second baseman Stephanie Watts is hitting .326 with 43 hits, a team-high 40 runs and a team-best tying 10 home runs. The Clovis, Calif. native has started all 40 games in which she has played.
The Bearcats are led by senior catcher Deannie Plemon. She ranks second on the team with nine home runs and second in the American East 39 RBI. Plemon is Binghamton's all-time home run leader (32) and has a program-best 118 RBI, 261 total bases and 62 extra-base hits. Sophomore outfielder Jessica Phillips (Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North) continues to lead the America East in batting (.495), home runs (13) and RBI (40). In addition, her slugging percentage remains at 1.000 and her on-base percentage is at .606. She continues to rank second in program history with 28 home runs and fourth with 73 RBI.
Syracuse leads the all-time series 11-1 and has won the last eight meetings. Thursday's encounter will be the first since 2008.
