
Orange Hosts Quinnipiac this Weekend

Straight off of its sweep of Penn State, the Syracuse ice hockey team returns home to host Quinnipiac this weekend. The Orange (2-2-0, 2-0-0 CHA) and the Bobcats (2-1-1, 0-0-0 ECAC) open up the weekend series on Friday, Oct. 19th, at 4 p.m. Puck drop for game two is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20th. Both games will be played at the Tennity Ice Pavilion.

Orange Analysis
• The Orange opened up CHA play by sweeping Penn State and improving to 2-2-0 so far this season.
• SU defeated PSU 4-0 on Saturday and 6-0 on Sunday.
• Both goaltenders Jenesica Drinkwater and Kallie Billadeau each notched a shutout this weekend. The shutout was the third of each of their careers. Drinkwater holds a GAA of 3.02 and a save percentage of .864. Sunday was the first start for Billadeau this season.
• Leading the way on offense is senior forward Holly Carrie-Mattimoe. Carrie-Mattimoe leads the Orange in goals scored with four and has notched two power play tallies. She has also notched two assists. Also with six points is redshirt freshman Laurie Kingsbury who has totaled three goals and three assists so far in her debut season.Â
Impressive CHA Opening at PSU
• For the first time in program history, the Orange completely shutout an opponent in a weekend series this past weekend at Penn State. The Orange blanked the Nittany Lions, 4-0 and 6-0.Â
• This was the second time that SU has opened up CHA play with two wins since it defeated Wayne State in 2010-11.

• The Bobcats are on a two-game winning streak after sweeping Maine at home this past weekend. Quinnipiac won the first game against Main, 6-1, and the second, 5-2. Prior to playing Maine, Quinnipiac tied (4-4) and lost (4-3) to CHA opponent, Mercyhurst.
• Leading the offense attack for the Bobcats is junior forward Kelly Babstock. Babstock has scored eight goals and six assists in the first four games of the season and is a team-high +8. Sophomore forward Nicole Kosta has tallied a team-high 10 assists so far and notched one goal.
• The Bobcats have split time with two goaltenders in the opening games of the season. Sophomore Chelsea Laden has a GAA of 3.03 and a save percentage of .900 while her counterpart, senior Victoria Vigilanti has a 2.41 GAA and .839 save percentage.

Looking for the First W at Home
• Syracuse dropped its first two games at home this season against New Hampshire, 4-3, and No. 10 Northeastern, 5-2.Â
•The Orange holds a 26-32-6 all-time record while playing at home at the Tennity Ice Pavilion.
Shots Fired
• On Saturday, Oct. 13th, the Orange set a new program record for most shots in a game (57) at Penn State.Â
•SU had previously registered a high of 53 shots at Sacred Heart in 2009.
• The Orange also tallied 28 shots in the first frame of play in its 4-0 win. It was the most shots taken in a single period this season for the Orange.
Power Play Leader
• Holly Carrie-Mattimoe's power-play tally in the third period at Penn State was the 17th of her career.
• Carrie-Mattimoe now sits alone at the top of SU's all-time power-play goal list with 17. Behind her is Julie Rising (2008-11) with 15.
• She has two power play tallies so far this season.
• Carrie-Mattimoe has scored the most power-play goals in the history of the Orange (17) and only needs three more assists to move into second.
Shooting Frenzy
• The Orange has outshot all of its opponents so far this season, 176-86, and is 2-2-0 when outshooting an opponent.
• At Penn State, the Orange took 57 shots to the Nittany Lions' 21 shots and outshot PSU 44-20 in game two of the series.
• Against UNH, SU tallied 38 shots, while the Wildcats registered 20.
• In its game against No. 10 Northeastern, the Orange registered 37 shots compared to the Huskie's 25.
Points at Penn State
• The Orange had six different skaters register at least one point in each game of the series at Penn State.

 Double Trouble

Drinkwater Honored
• For the second time in her career, goaltender Jenesica Drinkwater was named the CHA Goaltender of the Week.
• Drinkwater posted her third career shutout, and first of the season, at Penn State (4-0).
• Currently, Drinkwater has a GAA of .864 and a save percentage of .864. She has recorded 57 saves so far this season.
Kingsbury's Dynamic Debut
• Redshirt freshman Laurie Kingsbury has tallied at least one point in all four games for the Orange in her debut season.
• Kingsbury ranks second in the CHA for scoring with six points (3g, 3a).Â
• She is currently on a four game scoring streak (3g, 3a).
• Kingsbury notched two goals and two assists over the weekend at Penn State, including the game-winner during the Orange's 6-0 shutout victory.
• Kingsbury has been named to the CHA honor roll for the past two weeks for her offensive efforts.
Piacentini on the Powerplay
• Freshman forward Melissa Piacentini scored her first career power play goal at Penn State (10/14/12).
• She notched her first career goal against Penn State the night before.
• Piacentini is on a three-game scoring streak after tallying her first collegiate point against No. 10 Northeastern on an assist.
Scharfe in the Swing of ThingsÂ
• Junior forward Margot Scharfe tallied four points at Penn State this weekend.
• She had two assists in game one of the series (10/13/12) and scored two goals in the second game (10/14/12).
• Scharfe netted her two goals in the third period against PSU. Her first score was the her first goal of the 2012-13 season.Â
Billadeau Back in Net
• In her first start this season, Kallie Billadeau recorded a 6-0 shutout at Penn State.
• Billadeau has a career GAA of 303 and a save percentage of .904.
Blocking by Hosoyamada
• Junior defenseman Akane Hosoyamada has a team high six blocks so far this season.
• Hosoyamada also notched her first point this season on an assist to Piacentini's second period goal against PSU.
Roach Fourth in the CHA
• Junior defenseman Caitlin Roach ranks fourth in the conference for defensemen scoring (1 g, 3a).
• Roach scored her first goal and tallied an assist in the Orange's season opener against New Hampshire.
Record Book Watch
• Senior forward Holly Carrie-Mattimoe's name can be seen throughout out the Orange record book.
• She sits in fourth with games play (109), third in points (73), tied for third with goals (33) and 3rd with assists (43).
• Carrie-Mattimoe needs one more goal to tie for first in the Orange record book for career goals and two to become the all-time leader.
Orange Special Teams
• The Orange has gone 3-for-21 (.143) so far this season on the power play.
• The SU penalty killing unit has gone 14-for-18 (.778).Â
Tri-Captains
• Senior defenseman Jacquie Greco, senior forward Holly Carrie-Mattimoe and junior forward Margot Scharfe will serve as the Orange tri-captains this season. Greco was an assistant captain last season.
Conference Openers
• The Orange is now 3-2 all-time in conference openers and 1-2 when they are on the road.

Energized in the Second
• The Orange offense was explosive in the second period against No. 10Northeastern, registering a season-high 18 shots in the frame.
• They limited the Huskies only four shots and zero goals in the second 20 minutes of play after allowing four goals in the first period.
Freshman Connection
• Redshirt freshman Laurie Kingsbury's first career goal in the game against Northeastern was assisted by fellow freshmen, Danielle Leslie and Melissa Piacentini.
• The assists were both Leslie's and Piacentini's first career points.
• Kingsbury tallied an assist against UNH for her first career point the night before.Â
Welcome to the Orange
• The Orange added six newcomers to its roster this season Freshman Julie Bengis will join the goaltending corps while Nicole Renault and Danielle Leslie will join the veterans on defense. Melissa Piacentini, Marianne Thomaris and Emily Auerbacher will add to the Orange's strong offense.
