2012 All-American Teams
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -Â Syracuse field hockey's Laura Hahnefeldt, Kelsey Millman and Iona Holloway were all named Longstreth/NFHCA All-Americans on Tuesday by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). It is the fifth straight year that head coach Ange Bradley's Orange has had three All-Americans, tying a program record.
Â
Hahnefeldt, a junior back, was named to the first team, while Millman, a senior forward, was named to the second team, and Holloway, a senior back, was named to the third team, giving Syracuse 33 All-American's in program history.
Â
Hahnefeldt, from Hamburg, Germany, earns her second All-America honor (2010, second team), while Millman, from Center Valley, Pa., earns her second nod as well (2011, third team), making them the fifth and sixth two-time All-Americans in program history.
Â
Hahnefeldt, the Mideast Region Player of the Year and All-Mideast Region and All-BIG EAST first-teamer, and Holloway, the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and All-Mideast Region and All-BIG EAST first-teamer, combined to lead a Syracuse defense that ranked first in the country throughout most of the season in goals against average, while tying for the NCAA lead in shutouts with eight, including the top two scoring teams in the country and national finalists, North Carolina and Princeton.
Â
Hahnefeldt, key member of the Orange's offensive and defensive penalty corner units, scored three goals in the BIG EAST Tournament before finishing the season with 11 points on four goals and three assists. She becomes SU's 10th first-team All-American.
Â
Holloway made numerous key tackles and forced turnovers for the Orange in 2012, while also playing a vital role on both the offensive and defensive penalty corner units. The All-Mideast Region first-teamer and All-BIG EAST first-teamer also contributed at the offensive end, finishing with five points on two goals and one assist.
Â
Millman, the Orange's captain, was team's leading scorer in 2012, piling up 32 points on 13 goals and six assists on her way to being named All-Mideast Region First Team and All-BIG EAST First Team, her second straight season receiving both honors. It was her second season in a row leading the Orange in points, as she had 51 in 2011, and tied for the team-lead in goals with 19.
Â
Millman's off-the-ball movement and attention she drew from opposing defenses also allowed the Orange attack to be one of the most balanced and diversified in the country. Syracuse's 86 goals were spread out among 13 players with seven scoring seven or more goals.
Â
Millman finished her collegiate career with 36 goals, tied with Maggie Befort (2008-11) for seventh in Syracuse history, and 92 points, seventh all-time.
Â
The three All-Americans helped lead the Orange to a 19-3 season that included three weeks ranked No. 1 in the country, a BIG EAST regular season title, and the program's second Final Four appearance.
