SU Defeats Host FAU, 4-0, to Take Title

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Syracuse softball team (17-8) recorded its seventh straight win as they defeated host Florida Atlantic (10-22), 4-0, to take the FAU Parents' Weekend Tournament title in Boca Raton on Saturday, March 17. SU went undefeated in its four games in the tournament.
Senior Jenna Caira continued her pitching tear, recording her 10th straight win to improve to 13-3 on the year. Caira did not allow a FAU hit until the fourth inning. She finished with one hit allowed and six strikeouts in five innings of work.
The Orange hit the ground running, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Senior Lisaira Daniels doubled to center field to score fellow senior Stephanie Watts. The next batter, Lacy Kohl crushed a home run to right field to give the visitors a comfortable 3-0 cushion.
SU extended its lead in the sixth inning. Freshman Julie Wambold smacked a triple down the right field line. The right fielder attempted to throw her out at third and made an errant throw. Wambold would score to give SU a 4-0 lead.
Freshman Lindsay Taylor came in to relieve Caira for the final two innings. The rookie did not allow a hit and struck out two.
Next weekend, the Orange will host Canisius and Colgate at the Duel at the Dome. The games will be the first to be held at the Carrier Dome in its history. Fans will be able to follow a live blog and live statistics for all of Syracuse's games.
