SU Defeats Colgate in First at the Dome

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - #Jenna Caira# did not allow a run, surrendered one hit, and struck out seven in five innings of work to lead No. 24 Syracuse (18-8) to a 6-0 victory against Colgate (4-14) in the Duel at the Dome on Friday, March 23. The game was the first ever softball contest to be held inside the Carrier Dome. With the victory, SU increased its winning streak to eight games.
Caira recorded her eleventh straight win. She now boasts a 14-3 record this season. Freshman Carey-Leigh Thomas batted 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs to spur the offensive effort.
Syracuse jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the home half of the first. After the Orange loaded the bases with no outs, senior Lacey Kohl sparked the offense with a sacrifice fly to deep left field that plated sophomore Shirley Daniels. Two batters later, Thomas launched a three-run shot over the center field fence.
In the bottom of the fourth, sophomore Morgan Nandin hit an RBI single and senior Lisaira Daniels drew a bases loaded walk to give the Orange a 6-0 advantage.
Freshman Lindsay Taylor and junior Stacy Kuwik combined to pitch the final two innings. Kuwik closed out the game by striking out the side in the top of the seventh inning.
Syracuse will play in the Carrier Dome again on Saturday, March 24 to wrap up the Duel at the Dome. The Orange will host Canisius at 6 p.m.
