
Signee Success At U19 Indoor Nationals

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Syracuse field hockey 2012 signees Jessica Jecko and Alyssa Manley helped lead their respective teams to pool championships at the USA Field Hockey Under-19 National Tournament in Virginia Beach, Va. March 2-4.
Ange Bradley's Orange had four members of its incoming class participating in the prestigious tournament as Erin Dickey and Jenna Knouse participated as well.
The four are part of a talented recruiting class that will join the BIG EAST Champion Orange for the 2012 season this fall.
Jecko, a goalkeeper from Clinton, N.Y., led the CNY Green, coached by Josh Conover, to the Pool J title with a 6-1-0 record. Jecko allowed just nine goals in seven games, while her squad posted 22 goals of its own.
Manley, a High School All-American from Lititz, Pa., led the High Styx Stampede, coached by Joyce Angstadt, to the Pool C title with a 5-1-1 record. The Stampede scored 22 goals and allowed just eight in its seven games.
All teams in the National Indoor Tournament had to qualify at one of 15 regional qualifiers. Manley's High Styx Stampede qualified second out of the Festerville Qualifier, while Jecko's CNY Green qualified sixth out of the Loudonville Qualifier.
Knouse's East Coast Thunder was the No. 2 qualifer out of the State College region, while Dickey's Pa. Mavericks qualified No. 1 out of the Collegeville region.
Indoor tournaments are played on smaller, smooth playing surfaces with hitting and lifting not permitted, resulting in a highly-skilled, quick and technical game.
