SYRACUSE, N.Y. - During the coming weeks, Syracuse field hockey head coach Ange Bradley will announce the program's 2012 signing class. Be sure to check back to SUathletics.com as the BIG EAST Champion Orange unveils its incoming class one-by-one.
“I am thrilled to welcome the Class of 2016 to our Syracuse family,” Bradley said. “This is a very intelligent and competitive group of young women. In the classroom all of them are exceptional. This group will have time to learn from our past winning traditions and help us compete for another BIG EAST title. They will also grow to inherit the future of our conference transition as we move to compete in the toughest field hockey conference in the country, the ACC. I extend my gratitude to this class for selecting Syracuse and on behalf of my staff and team welcome them to Syracuse!”
Previously announced 2012 signings:
Sarah Clark

In today's installment, Bradley announces the signing of Emma Russell, from Enniskerry, Ireland.
Born in Santa Clara, Calif., but coming to Syracuse all the way from Ireland, Russell, a midfielder and forward, was the captain of the Holy Child Killiney high school field hockey team her junior and senior year. She was the top goal scorer at Holy Child Killiney and on her club team, Old Alex Hockey Club.
Russell has received many honors including the Hermes Young Player of the Year 2010/11, the Lee Brothers Sportsperson of the Year 2011, the Holy Child Sportsperson of the Year 2010, the Holy Child Award for Excellence in Sport 2009 and 2011, and many others.
“The opportunity that Syracuse offers me to combine field hockey and academics at such a high level is unique,” Russell said. “I love to embrace life's challenges and I will be honored to face the challenges that wearing the Orange will present. I hope to contribute to the great tradition that has been built around the Orange.”
Russell was also a first reserve for the Irish Youth Olympic team in 2010 and has represented Ireland in the European U16 and U18 championships.
“Fast, skillful and a pure finisher are the thoughts that come to mind when describing Emma's play,” Bradley said. “As a member of Ireland's U18 National team she will bring international experience. Emma will add a new dimension to our ability to score and break out of the midfield and into the front attacking third of the field.”
Russell will join fellow Ireland native Liz McInerney with the Orange in 2012.
