Coming off a season in which she helped the Orange to its second straight BIG EAST Tournament Championship and fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament, junior forward Kelsey Millman has been named the captain of the 2012 Syracuse field hockey team.
"Kelsey is a charismatic team player," said head coach Ange Bradley. "She possesses the ability to bring people together while maintaining the focus of our big picture of the Syracuse hockey family performing as a high performance organization."
Millman led the team in scoring last season with 19 goals and 13 assists en route to a Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-American Third Team selection. The Center Valley, Pa. native broke Yvonne Milionis' 1990 record for most points as a junior (51). Millman broke the SU record for points in a game (11) and tied the school record for goals in a game (four) in an 11-1 win against Georgetown on October 14.
"I am honored to be named captain of such a talented team," Millman said. "I'm excited to see the growth of all of us and see all we can accomplish in our next season."
Millman was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team, and earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week status twice during the 2011 campaign. She was also named to the conference Weekly Honor Roll twice.
"Kelsey will have the help of leading our team from her five outstanding senior classmates," Bradley said. "This is a very strong, focused and powerful senior class. We are also excited to welcome our incoming freshmen and look forward to beginning our quest for the 2012 season."
Syracuse, which was 16-2 when Millman recorded at least one point in 2011, finished the season with a 19-4 record, including a 5-1 mark in the BIG EAST and a perfect 13-0 performance at J.S. Coyne Stadium.
