SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Winners of 11 out of its last 12 games, the Syracuse University softball team (21-9, 2-1), hosts Seton Hall (18-18, 0-5) this weekend for a three game set at the SU Softball Complex.
This series marks meetings 26-28 between the two universities with the Orange holding a slim 13-12 advantage. Syracuse has won the past four contests, including a sweep of the Pirates last year in New Jersey.
LAST WEEK IN REVIEW:
It was a home run derby last weekend in Queens as Syracuse and St. John's combined to hit 18 long balls in three games. Syracuse hit 11 of those homers and took 2-of-3 from the Red Storm. Carey-Leigh Thomas, Julie Wambold, Jasmine Watson and Stephanie Watts each hit two round-trippers, while Lisaira Daniels, Ashley Dimon and Kelly Saco each had one.
Watson was virtually impossible to retire last weekend. The sophomore was 4-of-6 at the dish with two home runs (including a grand slam), six RBI, three runs scored and six walks. She had an on base percentage of .833 and a slugging percentage of 1.833. Daniels scored a career-high four runs in the rubber game.
L. DANIELS' ON BASE STREAK REACHES 15:
Senior Lisaira Daniels has reached base safely in 15 consecutive games. The all-time leader in batting average at Syracuse, Daniels is leading the team in average (.374), hits (34), runs (26), home runs (7), slugging percentage (.692) and is tied for the team-high with 20 RBI.
SUCCESS IN MARCH:
After starting the season at 5-5, the Orange has gone 16-4 in its last 20 games, including winning 11 of its last 12 contests. SU put together a 10-game winning streak during that stretch and was 15-4 overall in the month of March.
SCOUTING THE PIRATES:
Seton Hall is searching for its first conference win this weekend. The Pirates enter the series with an even record of 18-18 and is 0-5 in BIG EAST action. Kristen Kaelin leads the offense with a .351 batting average with 39 hits, including a league best 12 doubles.
Game one on Friday is set for 3:00 p.m., while first pitch for game two is approximately at 5:30 p.m. Saturday's contest will start at noon. Fans can follow live stats and a live blog for the entire three game set.
