Rising junior Brittany Anghel is currently in Norway to compete for the U.S. national women's soccer U-23 squad. She'll be checking in with SUathletics.com during her trip with a blog. Her first entry is below.
“ I went for a run today at around 9 p.m. The scenery here is awesome. Luckily, I got to the weight room late and it was closed so I ran outside. You can see green mountains everywhere you turn and over here, in the summertime, the sun is up until almost midnight. I found myself forgetting that I was running because I was too busy taking in all the scenic views. The best part was going across the bridge and seeing the sunlight reflect on the water with the big mountains in the background. Truly amazing!
“Some of the girls went to the shops across the street from the hotel and said they had a ton of chocolate there. Needless to say, I will be heading over there at some point and bringing some Norwegian chocolate back home!
“My dad is coming to see me in a few days and it will be good to see him. He's from Romania and loves to travel and he's never been to Norway. He definitely jumped on this opportunity to come when he found out I was invited here. He actually left home last night and is currently visiting Copenhagen first and will be here Saturday. I'm hoping he will get to see me play Sunday against Norway. That would be perfect.
“On another note I'm excited to put on the real national team jersey tomorrow. It really feels like I'm living a dream being here in Norway and suiting up will only add to the excitement of the ride. I'm grateful for all the pioneers who've paved the way in US women's soccer. It makes being an American/ wearing the crest that much more special.
“Thanks for listening.”
