SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Multiple members of the Orange men's soccer team will compete in the Premier Development League (PDL) and National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) playoffs this weekend.
Â
In the PDL, senior Nick Bibbs and the Ocean City (N.J.) Nor'easters earned the top seed in the Eastern Conference Championship after posting the conference's best record (13-3-0). The Nor'easters will face the Ottawa Fury in the semifinals at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 21 at Macpherson Stadium in Greensboro, N.C. The winner advances to Sunday's 6 p.m. conference championship game against either Reading United or the host Carolina Dynamo.
Â
Bibbs was in the starting lineup for the Nor'easters when they clinched the PDL Mid-Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference regular-season titles last Sunday with a 1-0 victory versus the Brooklyn Knights.
Â
A little farther south, incoming junior Tony Asante and the Ocala (Fla.) Stampede (11-3-2) will host the Southern Conference Championship. Ocala will play the Austin Aztex at 8 p.m. Friday, July 20 at Trinity Catholic Stadium. Should the Stampede advance, it will face the winner of Laredo and Orlando City Sunday at 5 p.m. in the conference title game.
Â
Asante has been one of the Stampede's top strikers, recording five goals and two assists during the regular season.
Â
The four PDL conference champions advance to the national semifinals July 27-29 at two sites to be determined. The PDL Championship is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 4 at the home of one of the semifinal winners.
Â
In the NPSL, Orange senior Mark Brode and the New York Red Bulls will take on FC Sonic in a semifinal match Saturday, July 21 at Lehigh University. The Red Bulls advanced with a 2-0 first-round playoff victory over the Morris County Colonials, which featured Brode's Syracuse teammate Stephen Krachie.
Â
This weekend's other two NPSL semifinal-round games pit the Sonoma Sol against the Bay Area Ambassadors, and the Madison 56ers versus Cleveland AFC. The three semifinal winners will join Chattanooga FC in the NPSL finals July 27-29 in San Diego.
Â
The PDL and NPSL are the two top amateur soccer leagues in North America.
