SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Syracuse men's soccer program recently hosted its annual Junior Orange and Residential Boys Soccer Camps from July 8-13 at the Lampe Athletics Complex. SUathletics.com recently caught up with Orange head coach Ian McIntyre to get his thoughts on what proved to be an exciting week of soccer.
"With the residential camp, players came from all across the United States, Canada and we also had several from Europe who attended," McIntyre said.
Campers were put through their paces by area Division I, II, and III college coaches. Morning and afternoon sessions consisted of technical training, while competitive matches and all-star games marked the evening and night sessions. The Orange coaching staff was impressed with the quality and overall level of play throughout the week.
"It was a competitive, fun week and our guest college coaches did a fantastic job of creating a challenging soccer environment," McIntyre said.
While competition was the hallmark of the residential camp, the Junior Orange Camp was all about learning and having fun. Attended by boys and girls ages 6-12, the Junior Orange Camp featured small-sided games to help achieve those goals. The enthusiasm for the "beautiful game" displayed by the Junior Orange campers was what stood out most to the Syracuse coaches and added to their enjoyment of the week
"We all had an absolute blast and we cannot wait for the next chance to get back out there again with the kids," McIntyre said.
Syracuse has one more summer camp currently scheduled. McIntyre and his staff will host a high school team camp from Aug. 3-5 on the SU campus. For more information or to register, contact assistant coach Mike Miller at (315) 243-8614 or mbmill04@syr.edu. Teams can also register online by visiting the SU Soccer Camps website.
