PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Syracuse goes for its second consecutive win on Sunday, Sept. 16 when it travels to Providence to face the Friars at 1 p.m. Both teams won their league openers on Thursday. The Orange is now 4-3-1 overall, while Providence is 6-2-1 and has won five consecutive games.

THE SERIES
Sunday's meeting between Syracuse and Providence marks the 16th time the two have faced each other on the pitch. The Orange has won the last three meetings and owns an 11-4-1 advantage in the series.

A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ORANGE
Syracuse came back twice from one-goal deficits and defeated Connecticut, 3-2, in its BIG EAST opener on Thursday. Freshman Jackie Firenze scored her second goal of the season with 30 seconds remaining for her first career game-winner.

The Orange trailed 1-0 after the first minute of play. Senior Alyscha Mottershead evened the score in the 62nd minute with a header off assists from Jenna Rickan and Erin Simon. The Huskies responded quickly, taking a 2-1 lead 18 seconds later. Rickan again helped SU tie the score when she assisted on Rosina Callisto's first goal of the season in the 78th minute.

The game-winning goal was set up when the ball went out of bounds off Connecticut in Syracuse's offensive end. Taylor Haenlin threw the ball into Firenze, who put her shot through the legs of the UConn goalkeeper to give the Orange it's first victory against Connecticut in 18 tries.

Syracuse will be on the road for a pair of games next weekend. The Orange plays at Louisville on Friday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. and at Cincinnati on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 12 p.m.
