SYRACUSE, N.Y. -Â Syracuse's Jordan Page is in Australia this week competing with the USA Field Hockey Under-21 National Team at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival (AYOF) in Sydney.
Â
The sixth AYOF features over 1,700 of the world's best young athletes from 30 nations competing in 17 Olympic sports from Jan. 16-20. The U.S. Junior Men's and Women's National Teams are among those competing.
Â
Page is representing the Red, White and Blue at the Sydney Olympic Park, where the USA will face China, Great Britain and Australia in pool play. The gold medal match will take place Jan. 20. The U.S. Women's U21 Team recently completed a successful four-game test series against New Zealand, finishing with a 3-1 record.
Â
A Denver, Pa. native, Page is coming off a stellar sophomore season with head coach Ange Bradley's Orange in 2012, helping guide the team to a 19-3 overall record, the BIG EAST regular season title and the program's second-ever Final Four appearance. Starting all 22 games on the SU midfield line, she tallied 30 points on nine goals and 12 assists. Page was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team and to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team.
Â
Page was named to the U.S. U21 squad in July, following Junior National Camp in Amherst, Mass. She was one of 30 players named to the team. Long a part of the USA program, Page has competed on the U17 and U19 teams, including playing last April in the USA-Canada Challenge in Vancouver, B.C.
Â
The AYOF is a bi-annual multi-sport event for Olympic aspirants between the ages of 12 and 20. The first AYOF was held in 2001 and utilizes many of the same venues used during the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. The AYOF Opening Ceremony incorporates the symbolism of the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, including: Parade of Athletes, Flag Bearers March, Welcome by Mr. John Coates AC, President of the Australian Olympic Committee, Festival Oath by two AYOF athletes, Olympic Flag Raising, Cauldron Lighting with Festival Flame, and an Olympic Celebration with a spectacular presentation of music, song and dance that will inspire and captivate all the athletes, officials, family and friends.Â
Â
U.S. Junior Women's Team Roster:Â Abby Beltrani, Marie Bolles, Emma Bozek, Teresa Benvenuti, Lauren Blazing, Laura Gebhart, Katherine Gerzabek, Maxine Fluharty, Kelsey Harbin, Dani Hemeon, Aileen Johnson, Kati Nearhouse, Jordan Page, Lara Parsley, Taylor Rhea, Kelsey Smither, Anna Zarkoski
