SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Freshman goalkeeper Alex Bono was named to the Soccer America All-Freshman Second Team on Monday, Jan. 7. It's the latest postseason honor for Bono who was named to the College Soccer News All-Freshman First Team in December and the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team in November.
Â
Bono started 20 matches for the Orange this season, recording 10 shutouts and 79 saves. He was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week three times, an SU soccer record. Bono posted a career-high eight saves in SU's final two NCAA Tournament games against No. 19 VCU and No. 6 Georgetown.
Â
Bono's 0.85 season goals-against average ranks fifth in the SU record books, while his 10 shutouts are the most for an Orange goalie since Rick Fatscher had 10 in 1984.
