SYRACUSE, N.Y. -Â Ryan Nichols joins the women's basketball program as the director of multimedia and technology. With six years of experience in intercollegiate athletics he knows the ropes and is ready to take on all technology aspects of the women's basketball team.
Â
"I want to thank Coach Quentin Hillsman and the Syracuse women's basketball program for the opportunity to be their director of multimedia and technology," Nichols said. "Coach Hillsman has built a winning program here at Syracuse and most importantly he has done it the right way. I am very much looking forward to working with Coach Hillsman, his staff and the players this upcoming season, as we enter the ACC."
Â
"Ryan has a wealth of experience at the collegiate and NBA levels," Hillsman said. "His expertise will enhance all aspects of our program, and we are very fortunate to have him joining us."
Â
In May 2010, Nichols completed his Bachelor of Science in sports management, with a minor in business administration, from Texas A&M University. He returned to the school to pursue a graduate degree, and finished his Master of Science in sports management in May 2013. During his time at Texas A&M, Nichols worked diligently for both the men's basketball and football teams.
Â
Nichols was named the head office student manager for the men's basketball team in July 2006. His position required him to travel for away games, operate the computer during scouting report and record game stats during competitions. He also spent time creating self and opponent scout tapes with the coaching staff.
Â
In 2009, Nichols decided to change his scenery a bit to better understand intercollegiate athletics as a whole and not just one aspect. He became the coaches video student manager for the Texas A&M football and soccer teams. His duties included filming practices and games for coaching staff and player review, collaborating weekly with coaches and coordinators to create teaching DVDs for player development and assisting with on-campus recruiting of high-profile, high school athletes.
Â
In addition to his experience in intercollegiate athletics at a prestigious university, Nichols also has experience at the professional level. He worked in Salt Lake City for the Utah Jazz, for three summers. His job in the executive front office required him to assist in all activities leading up to the NBA Draft, NBA Summer League in Orlando and tabulating statistical analysis and player evaluation during the NBA free agency period. While there, he worked with closely with Kevin O'Connor, the general manager of the Jazz.
Â
Nichols joins the staff with expert knowledge of multimedia management, including film exchange, editing and video graphing of athletic events. He will take charge of the women's basketball in-game video operations, film exchange and scouting data compilation. His knowledge of collegiate team operations and the recruiting process will also be of use to the women's basketball program.Â
