ACC Release
GREENSBORO, N.C. -Â Syracuse field hockey junior Lauren Brooks was named ACC Co-Player of the Week on Tuesday after scoring a total of three goals, including both game-winners in the No. 3 Orange's victories vs. No. 16 Wake Forest and Cornell (OT).
Â
In Saturday's match vs. Wake Forest, the Lancaster, Pa. native set the tone early by scoring the game's first goal in the 12th minute on a nifty reverse-stick shot from the top of the circle in a match Syracuse went on to win, 5-2. On Sunday against Cornell, Brooks again scored the game's first goal, this time in the sixth minute, before netting the game-winner in overtime for a 3-2 Orange victory.
Â
Brooks has a team-high 12 goals on the season and leads Syracuse with four game-winning goals, two of which have come in overtime. Brooks also had the winning goal in overtime versus No. 7 Duke on Oct. 11.
Â
Brooks is the third Syracuse player to earn ACC weekly honors this season. She joins senior midfielder Leonie Geyer, who won the award on Sept. 17, and freshman forward Karlee Farr, who was honored on Oct. 15.
Â
Maryland's Maxine Fluharty was also named Co-Player of the Week by the conference office. She scored two goals in a 4-1 win vs. No. 5 Virginia and had an assist in a 9-0 win vs. Georgetown.
Â
Brooks and the Orange close out the regular season on Saturday when they host No. 2 North Carolina in a pivotal ACC contest. Game time at Coyne Stadium is at 1 p.m. A ceremony will be held prior to the game honoring Syracuse's senior class.
