Halis Named ACC Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – After registering the game-winning goal in SU's 1-0 upset of No. 19 Clemson on Friday, Nov. 1, Alex Halis was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week Monday. Halis is the first freshman to earn the accolade this season.

Halis' fourth golden goal of the season came in the 61st minute against the Tigers and kept Syracuse in contention for a spot in next week's ACC Tournament. His four game-winners lead the team and are tied for the most in the conference.

Halis is second on the Orange in both points (13) and goals (6). The Brampton, Ontario, Canada native was also ranked No. 5 on TopDrawerSoccer.com's national midseason list of the Top 100 Freshmen, released last month.Â

Halis and the Orange (10-6-1, 3-6-1 ACC) will try to secure a berth in the ACC Tournament Friday, Nov. 8 when they travel to No. 12 Wake Forest. The Orange and Demon Deacons kick off at 7 p.m. at Spry Stadium in the regular-season finale for both teams.
