
Nassib, Butler Take Home Orange-Scholar Athlete Of The Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y - Syracuse cornerback, senior Joe Nassib (Newton Square, Pa.) of the football team, and women's basketball guard sophomore Brianna Butler (King of Prussia, Pa.) are the Orange Scholar-Athletes of the Week for Dec. 16, 2013.
Nassib has played in nine games this season, primarily on special teams. In the past three seasons he has seen action in 33 of the Orange's 37 contests. Last year at Cincinnati, Nassib recorded the only tackle of his career. He was a 2012 BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection and is a three-time member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. Nassib is pursuing a degree in information management and technology in the School of Information Studies.
Butler's 16.6 points per game and stellar three-point shooting has helped SU climb into the national rankings, checking in at No. 23 this week in the Associated Press poll. She is 35-of-82 (42.7%) from beyond the arc, giving her 3.89 trifectas per game - good for fourth most in the country. After leading the Orange to three wins in three days at the Paradise Island Jam, Butler was awarded the Atlantic Coast Conference and espnW Player of the Week. The sophomore led the team in scoring all three games with an average of 23.3 points on 14-of-26 (53.8 percent) from long range, including a career-best 29-point performance in an upset of previously-ranked No. 12/11 Texas A&M.
A BIG EAST All-Freshman Team honoree last year, Butler has been included on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll once. She is majoring in sport management in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics.
Nassib and the Syracuse football team (6-6, 4-4 ACC) continue their preparation this week for the Texas Bowl, which will take place on Friday, Dec. 27 in Houston, Texas. After more than a week off, Butler and the Orange women (8-1) host three games this week starting with Temple on Monday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. Niagara and Saint Joseph's will also come to the Carrier Dome for contests on Thursday, Dec. 19 and Saturday, Dec. 21, respectively.
