2013 All-American Teams | Syracuse All-Americans
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -Â Three Syracuse field hockey players were honored on Monday when the National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced its 2013 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-America Teams. Senior Leonie Geyer was named to the first team, while senior Laura Hahnefeldt and sophomore Alyssa Manley garnered third-team honors. This marks the sixth-straight year Syracuse, under head coach Ange Bradley, has had three All-Americans.
Â
All three were also named All-Mideast Region First Team on Nov. 19 after leading the Orange to a 16-4 overall record in 2013, a season in which it finished second in its inaugural ACC campaign (5-1) and was ranked No. 2 in the country in the final coaches poll.
Â
This is Geyer's first All-America honor as she becomes the 11th first-team honoree in program history. She was named to the All-ACC first team after receiving All-BIG EAST honors in 2010 and 2012.
Â
A midfielder that was one of the top play-makers in the country throughout her career, led the Orange and ranked fifth in the country in assists with 13, while also scoring 11 goals to tie her with Emma Russell for the team-lead in points with 35. The Neuss, Germany native finished her career third all-time at Syracuse in assists with 42, fourth in points with 110 and tied for ninth in goals with 34.
Â
Hahnefeldt joins Julie Williamson (1992-94) and Martina Loncarica (2008-10) as the only three-time All-Americans in Syracuse history. She was a first-team honoree in 2012 after being named to the second team in 2010. She and Geyer bring SU's three-time all-conference club membership to 10. Hahnefeldt was named first-team All-ACC this year after being named All-BIG EAST in 2010 and 2012.
Â
A back from Hamburg, Germany, Hahnefeldt established herself throughout her career as one of the best defenders in the NCAA, leading a Syracuse defense that consistently ranked among the nation's stingiest in goals and shots allowed. She also contributed at the offensive end with one goal and six assists this season, giving her six goals and 13 assists for her career, totaling 25 points.
Â
Manley, a sophomore from Lititz, Pa., earns her first All-America honor. She became a consistent two-way force for the Orange on the midfield line in 2013, contributing on both the offensive and defensive ends. The All-ACC second-teamer and ACC All-Tournament selection totaled 18 points on seven goals and four assists, while being a key member of the penalty corner units.
