SYRACUSE, N.Y. -Â Senior Iona Hollaway leads a list of nine Syracuse field hockey players earning academic recognition, while the entire Orange team was also honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association this week.

Holloway, the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, was named a 2012 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I Scholars of Distinction list for having a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2012-13 academic year.

In recognition of student-athlete performance in the classroom, the 2012 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award has released a list of institutions that have achieved a team GPA of 3.0 or higher during the first semester of the 2012-13 academic. Syracuse is one of 68 Division I teams to receive this honor.

Nine members of the 2012-13 squad also make an appearance on the 2012 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Collegiate National Academic Squad, recognizing those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2012-13 academic year. Haley Bomboy, Lauren Brooks, Adrian Chambers, Erin Dickey, Laura Hahnefeldt, Jordan Page and Emma Russell all received the honor, in addition to seniors Kelsey Millman and Iona Holloway, who have both maintained presence on the list for their entire collegiate careers.

While enjoying a successes in the classroom, the Orange also enjoyed one of its most successful seasons ever on the field in 2012 under head coach Ange Bradley, going 19-3 and reaching a No. 1 national ranking on its way to its second-ever Final Four appearance.Â
