Field Hockey Hosts Spring Tournament

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -Â Syracuse field hockey continues its spring exhibition season on Saturday when the Orange hosts its spring tournament at J.S. Coyne Stadium. SU is hosting Colgate, Cornell and Lafayette in round-robin action that begins at 9 a.m.

Fresh off its 2012 Final Four run, head coach Ange Bradley's Orange is already preparing for its 2013 campaign, its first as a member of the ACC.

The day begins with 7 vs. 7 action running the widths of the field. SU will play Colgate at 9 a.m., while the Raiders will face Cornell at 10 a.m. The teams will switch back to full-field 11-on-11 action at 11 a.m. with teams playing round-robin 30-minute games.

One-hour games between the schools will begin at 12:45 with SU facing Lafayette. Each game, regardless of score, will conclude with 1-on-1 shootouts.

SU is coming off a 19-3 season in which it was ranked No. 1 in the country for three-straight weeks before winning the BIG EAST regular season title and advancing to its second-ever Final Four.

Cornell went 8-9 a season ago, including a 3-4 mark in the Ivy League. Colgate was 4-13 in 2012, including a 2-3 mark in the Patriot League. Lafayette was an impressive 17-3 last fall, going a perfect 5-0 in the Patriot League to win the league title. The Leopards were ranked No. 13 in the final NFHCA poll.

Following Saturday's tournament, Kai-Zen Field Hockey will be hosting its Spring Fling on April 28 at Syracuse University. The event is a field player and goalie skills clinic open to players of all ages and includes a four-game guarantee. Interested players can register as an individual or as part of a team.
