
Butler, Peterson Get All-USA Honors

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -Â USA TODAY has announced its American Family Insurance All-USA girls basketball teams with a pair of Syracuse incoming freshmen being honored. Tasia Butler was named to the All-Maryland Team and Alexis Peterson was named to the All-Ohio Team.

Butler and Peterson help comprise head coach Quentin Hillsman's incoming class of five that was ranked as the No. 10 recruiting class in the country by Dan Olson's Collegiate Girls Basketball Report and No. 12 by Blue Star Basketball Report.

A 6-1 wing from North Point High School in Waldorf, Md., Butler, the sister of current SU guard Tiara Butler, averaged 19 points and six rebounds to lead the Eagles to the an undefeated season (27-0) and the Maryland 4A state title. The four-star recruit is ranked No. 12 at her position and No. 73 overall in the 2013 class by ESPN Hoopgurlz.

Tasia is a super athlete that has the ability to play three positions for us," Hillsman said when she signed in November. "Her versatility will allow us to continue to play an aggressive up-tempo style."

A 5-6 guard at Northland High School in Columbus, Ohio, Peterson was the top scorer in the Buckeye State, averaging over 28 points per game, while also contributing five rebounds, five assists and three steals per contest. A four-star recruit, she is ranked as the No. 26 guard and No. 92 overall in the 2013 class by ESPN Hoopgurlz.

"Alexis is a tenacious lead guard that pressures the ball and runs the ball club as a vocal and energetic leader," Hillsman said upon her signing. "She plays very hard and her basketball I.Q. sets her apart from other freshmen in her class."
