#5 'Cuse Opens ACC Play at #17 BC, Hosts Nat'l Champs

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -Â The No. 5 Syracuse field hockey team (6-0) playes its first ever ACC game on Friday when it travels to No. 17 Boston College (5-1) for a 4 p.m. contest before returning home to host national champion and No. 6 Princeton (3-1) in a non-conference game on Sunday at 3 p.m. at J.S. Coyne Stadium in a game that will be televised on Time Warner Cable Sports.
• The Orange is off to a perfect 6-0 start to its 2013 campaign, outscoring its opposition, 22-5. SU opened at the Asics Invitational in Hempstead, N.Y. (8/30-9/1) with wins vs. Quinnipiac (5-1) and Hofstra (4-1), before heading to East Lansing, Mich. (9/6-8), where it defeated Michigan State (4-0) and Kent State (6-2). Last weekend, SU opened at home with wins vs. No. 7 Massachusetts (2-1) and Ohio State (1-0).
• Coming off one of the most successful seasons in program history - going 19-3, winning the BIG EAST regular season title, spending three weeks at No. 1 in the country and advancing to the program's second Final Four - the Orange makes the move to the ACC in 2013 with a squad that includes 10 newcomers.
GAME COVERAGE
• Sunday's game vs. Princeton will be televised live on Time Warner Cable Sports Channel in central, western and northern New York. The game can also be watched online at WatchESPN and Orange All Access at SUathletics.com. Syracuse alum Brian Higgins '04 will be on the call.

ORANGE-HOT AT HOME
• The Orange has been dominating at J.S. Coyne Stadium since seventh-year head coach Ange Bradley took the reins in 2007 as it currently rides a 38-game home winning streak dating back to 2009.
• SU has outscored the opposition, 158-30, or an average score of 4.2-0.8, during the winning streak.
• In home games under Bradley (since 2007), Syracuse is 54-6 (.900) overall - 38-4 (.905) in non-conference games and 16-2 (.889) in conference games.
• The Orange is off to a 2-0 start at home this season. Last season, SU went 8-0 at home and outscored its opponents, 34-7. In 2011, Syracuse went 13-0 at home and outscored the opposition, 65-9.Â
• SU's last home loss was on Sept. 6, 2009 vs. No. 7 Princeton, 3-2, in overtime.
HELLO ACC!
• Syracuse plays its inaugural season in the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2013. The Orange brings the nation's premier field hockey conference's total of programs to seven.
• All seven ACC teams are currently ranked in the NFHCA Top 20, including four of the top five (No. 1 North Carolina, No. 2 Maryland, No. 4 Virginia and No. 5 Syracuse).
• ACC teams have been dominating the early non-conference portion of their schedules, amassing a 40-3 combined record going into this week.
• ACC teams have won 10 out of the last 11 national championships and had at least one team in the title game for each of the last 14 years.
ORANGE AT NO. 5
• Following a pair of home wins last weekend that included defeating No. 7 Massachusetts, Syracuse moved up one spot in this week's Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll  to No. 5.
• The Orange started the season ranked No. 5 in the preseason poll, before slipping to No. 6 on Sept. 10.
• SU finished 2012 ranked No. 5 after the Orange was No. 3 for three straight weeks in the poll after spending the previous three weeks at No. 1.
TOP 10 STREAK REACHES 56 WEEKS
• The Orange has now been ranked in the top 10 of the NFHCA poll for 56-straight weeks, dating back to Aug. 28, 2008.Â
• SU's No. 5 ranking in the preseason poll ran the streak to 54 weeks.
• The Orange was ranked No. 1 for three weeks in 2012 after spending three weeks at No. 2 and debuting at No. 7 in the preseason poll.
VS. RANKED OPPONENTS
• Syracuse is 1-0 against ranked opponents this season, beating No. 7 UMass, 2-1, on Sept. 13.
• Syracuse is 44-53 against ranked teams since 2007, but is an impressive 18-6 in its last 24. SU was 10-2 in 2012 and was 7-4 in 2011.
• The only losses to ranked teams in 2012 were to No. 5 UConn, 4-3, in the BIG EAST Championship and to No. 1 North Carolina in the national semifinals.
• The Orange is 19-33 against top 10 teams since 2007.
SERIES VS. BOSTON COLLEGE
• Syracuse is 18-6 all-time against Boston College in a series that dates back to 1990. The Orange has won four in a row.
• Gillian Pinder and Emma Russell scored two goals each to lead No. 3 Syracuse field hockey to a 4-2 victory over No. 16 Boston College on Oct. 21, 2012 at J.S. Coyne Stadium. Leann Stiver made six saves in goal as SU outshot the Eagles, 20-11.
• The last time the teams played at BC, on Oct. 21, 2011, the Orange beat the Eagles, 3-2, in overtime. Leonie Geyer netted the game-winner, while Kelsey Millman and Jordan Page added goals.
• Syracuse is 5-1 against BC under Ange Bradley.
SERIES VS. PRINCETON
• Syracuse is 5-11 all-time against the Tigers, but has won the meeting in each of the last two seasons,  snapping a three-game losing streak against them.
• Last season, SU handed Princeton its only loss of the season as the Tigers went on to win the NCAA title.
• Leonie Geyer and Emma Russell scored second-half goals to lead No. 2 Syracuse to a 2-0 victory at No. 3 Princeton on Sept. 23, 2012 at Bedford Field. Leann Stiver and the SU defense stymied the nation's top scoring offense and the nation's top scorer, Kathleen Sharkey (four shots). Stiver made six saves to earn her second-straight shutout and fifth of the season.
• In the last time the teams played at Coyne Stadium, on Sept. 18, 2011, the fifth-ranked Orange got goals from Martina Loncarica, Heather Susek, Kelsey Millman, Geyer and Lauren Brooks - all in the second half - while Stiver got the shutout in goal.
• Syracuse is 2-5 at home vs. Princeton.
• The Orange is 3-3 vs. the Tigers under Ange Bradley.
GEYER: ACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
• Leonie Geyer was named ACC Field Hockey Player of the Week on Tuesday by the conference office. The senior midfielder scored the game-winning goal in both of the No. 5 Orange's victories last week.
• Geyer began the weekend by scoring the game-winner in the 45th minute, breaking a 1-1 tie and sending SU to a 2-1 victory vs. No. 7 Massachusetts on Friday at Coyne Stadium. She followed that up on Sunday by netting the game's lone goal, scoring off a penalty corner with 4:36 remaining, to beat Ohio State, 1-0. The two wins extended the Orange's home winning streak to 38 games.
• Geyer now has four goals and six assists for 14 points on the season. She is tied for the NCAA lead in assists per game (1.00) and for the team lead in points with Lauren Brooks.
