NSCAA Players of the Week | College Soccer News Team of the Week
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – After leading the Orange to victories last week versus Connecticut and Duke, goalkeeper Alex Bono and defender Chris Makowski were rewarded for their performances. Bono was tabbed the Disney Soccer/NSCAA Division I Men's Player of the Week, released Tuesday, while Makowski was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week yesterday.
Bono made nine saves, including the 100th of his career, last week. He had five stops (two in the second half) in a 1-0 shutout of the 12th-ranked Huskies on Sept. 17. It was the 13th shutout of Bono's career (7th most in SU history), and he followed it up with four saves in a 2-1 win at Duke on Sept. 20, which was the Orange's inaugural ACC victory.
This season, Bono ranks third in the ACC in saves (27) and he's tied for second in shutouts (3).
Makowski was part of a Syracuse backline that limited the potent UConn attack to seven shots. Against Duke, he helped apply consistent offensive pressure to the Blue Devils, recording two shots on goal. Makowksi played all 90 minutes in both matches.
Bono, Makowski and the rest of the Orange look to extend their winning streak to three when they host Massachusetts on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium. Admission is free.
