SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sophomore midfielder Jackie Firenze is one of 12 players to earn CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Player honors for week five of the season. Firenze's impactful performances helped the Orange to a tie and a one-goal loss against two ranked opponents.
Firenze was responsible for marking Morgan Andrews in the Orange's 1-0 loss against the seventh-ranked Fighting Irish. Firenze was critical in keeping Andrews, a leading scorer for Norte Dame, scoreless during the contest. Andrews is also the Fighting Irish's leading shooter, already recording 29 shots this season. Against the Orange, she was limited to four shots with only two on goal.
Offensively, Firenze helped the Orange overcome a first half two-goal deficit to tie Duke, 2-2. After battling her defender to reach a pass into the box, Firenze took a shot as she fell to her knees, which got past Duke goalkeeper, Ali Kershner, for the game-tying goal in the 63rd minute. It was her first goal of the season.
Firenze and the Orange take on Clemson on Thursday, September 26, at the SU Soccer Stadium. The two teams will square off at 7 p.m. Admission is free of charge.
