DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE
The Orange has allowed just six goals this season, tied with Monmouth and Cornell for the fewest in the NCAA. The SU men's soccer record for fewest goals in a season is seven which was achieved in 1925 (8 games) . Its 0.36 goals-against average is also the best in the country and is on pace to top the current team record of 0.73 set in 1989. With 11 shutouts, Syracuse is tied with Fairfield for the most clean sheets in Division I soccer and is two shy of the SU record of 13 established in 1982.
Â
BONO AMONG THE BEST
Junior goalkeeper Alex Bono leads the nation in goals-against average (0.36), save percentage (.897) and goals allowed (6). His save percentage is on pace to rank second in the Orange single-season record book behind Joe Papaleo's .940 mark in 1982. The ACC record for goals-against average is 0.31 set by Tony Meola of Virginia in 1988 and equaled by UVa's Diego Restrepo in 2009. Bono currently has 29 career shutouts, two shy of Papaleo's school record (31).
Â
JUST WIN BABY
With its 4-1 victory against Bucknell, the Orange became the first team in the country to reach 13 wins. It's .844 winning percentage also leads the country and is on pace for the highest mark in SU men's soccer history. The 2014 campaign marks the third time since 2000 that the Orange has recorded double-digit wins.
