EKBLOM NAMED TO NATIONAL TEAM OF THE WEEK
Sophomore striker Emil Ekblom was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week on Monday. Ekblom scored the golden goal in the 107th minute of Saturday's match at Virginia Tech, giving Syracuse it's third ACC victory of the year. Ekblom is tied with Wake Forest's Michael Gamble for the ACC lead with six goals. He is also tied for the national lead with five game-winning goals. In 2013, Ekblom led the Orange with 10 goals, none of which were game-winners.

RECORD-BREAKING STREAK
Since conceding a goal in the second half of the match against Notre Dame on Sept. 13, junior goalkeeper Alex Bono has shut out opponents for a school-record stretch of 482:31. It's the longest individual shutout streak ever for an Orange goalie, surpassing the previous record of 461:59 set by Chris Whitcomb in 1986. The Orange has blanked five straight opponents, one short of the team record for consecutive clean sheets established in 1980.
USING THEIR HEADS
The last two Syracuse game-winning goals have been scored with headers off of either a cross or a set piece. In the 1-0 victory against then-No. 2 Virginia at home on Sept. 27, Skylar Thomas' header off Julian Buescher's corner kick found the back of the net. On Saturday, Ekblom's head connected with a cross from Oyvind Alseth that Chris Nanco deflected on to him. Ekblom's tally won the match in double overtime.
HISTORIC START
With nine wins in its first 10 games, the 2014 squad has equaled the 1984 Orange for the best start to a season in program history. No Syracuse team has ever won 10 of its first 11 matches. The 1982 and 1984 Orange both went 9-1-1 in its first 11 games. Â
THEY SAID IT
"It would have been terrible if we came all the way (to Virginia Tech) and didn't get a result. We had to work very hard, but I thought we were the better team."
