Women's Soccer On the Spot: Alana O'Neill
10/9/2014 3:53:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Freshman Alana O'Neill is having a good week. The Chester, N.Y. native scored twice against Boston College, the first two goals of her career, to lead the Orange to a 3-0 victory. For her performance, CollegeSoccer360 included O'Neill on its list of Primetime Performers.
Â
Prior to the Boston College match, O'Neill had played in 10 matches as part of SU's back line. She helped Syracuse post shutouts in the season opener against Missouri and against UMass-Lowell. Her speed was one of the reasons head coach Phil Wheddon brought her off the bench to play forward against Boston College. Less than 10 minutes after entering the match O'Neill scored her first collegiate goal. Six minutes later she added another goal off a header on a corner kick.
Â
O'Neill was a two-time NSCAA High School All-American and the 2013 NSCAA New York State High School Player of the Year. In addition, she earned 2012 New York State Gatorade Player of the Year accolades.
