
Three Orange Make TDS Best XI Teams

Honors continue to roll in for Syracuse men's soccer
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Three members of the Syracuse men's soccer team were named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Best XI Teams on Monday, Dec. 22.

Junior goalie Alex Bono earned first-team honors. Senior defender Skylar Thomas was a third-team selection and rookie Julian Buescher made the freshman first team. Bono was also named to the 2014 College Soccer News All-America First Team on Monday.

The 2014 ACC Defensive Player of the Year and a Hermann Trophy finalist as national player of the year, Bono set the Syracuse single-season records for goals-against average (0.55), shutouts (12) and minutes played (1,949) in 2014. He ranked sixth nationally in save percentage (.848) and seventh in goals-against average.

Thomas, an NSCAA All-South Region selection, started 19 games at center back and helped key a Syracuse defense that led the ACC and tied for fifth in the NCAA for the fewest goals allowed (12). Thomas was a force in the offensive third as well. He tallied a personal-best three goals, including the match-winners in regular-season victories against Virginia and Boston College.

An All-ACC Freshman Team honoree, Buescher started 20 games and was credited with five assists. Three of his five helpers were on game-winning goals. Buescher set up the deciding tallies against Virginia and Albany in the regular season, and Duke in the ACC quarterfinals.

Syracuse finished with a 16-4-1 overall record and was No. 10 in the final NSCAA national poll, the highest final ranking for the Orange in program history.
