News & notes from Week 14 of the SU men's soccer season
MAGICAL SEASON COMES TO A CLOSE
The Orange surrendered multiple goals for just the third time this season and lost 2-1 in overtime at Georgetown on Sunday, Nov. 30 in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Orange finished the season with 16 wins, the second most in program history. The campaign featured wins against ACC champion Clemson, then-No. 2 Virginia, Wake Forest, Duke and Penn State. The team let in just 12 goals and earned a share of the ACC Atlantic Division title. In addition, Syracuse received the No. 9 seed in the national tournament, the first time in program history it earned a top-16 seed. Four players (Alex Bono, Emil Ekblom, Skylar Thomas and Julian Buescher) and head coach Ian McIntyre earned All-ACC honors or conference individual awards. The team was ranked No. 1 in the country for two weeks in November, the first time Syracuse topped ever sat atop the NSCAA poll.

HALIS LATE-SEASON HEROICS
Alex Halis tallied Syracuse's long goal in the second half of the Georgetown match, capping a postseason in which his found his goal-scoring touch. Halis scored three of his four goals this year in the Orange's four postseason contests, including the game-winning goal against Duke in the second round of the ACC Championship.

RETURNING THE TROOPS
Twenty-four players on the 2014 roster has at least one year of eligibility remaining, including ACC Defensive Player of the Year Alex Bono, All-ACC selection Emil Ekblom, All-ACC Freshman Team pick Julian Buescher and second-leading goal-scorer Chris Nanco. Of the 36 goals scored by the Orange this season, 26 are poised to return in 2015.
