'Cuse Concludes Nine Game Road Trip At UVA

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Conference action resumes this weekend as the Syracuse softball team wraps up a nine game road swing with three contests at the University of Virginia. The pair will play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 15 beginning at 1 p.m. and the finale will be on Sunday, March 16 at 12 p.m.

WEEK IN REVIEW:
Syracuse played three non-conference games throughout the week, posting a 2-1 record. Freshman Sydney O'Hara pitched a six-hit shutout in a 5-0 win at Elon. The following day, the Orange overcame a 6-0 deficit to defeat Campbell 7-6 behind a pair of homers from sophomore Corinne Ozanne and the go-ahead shot by freshman Alyssa Dewes in the sixth. O'Hara threw four innings of relief for the win. On Friday, SU jumped out to a 4-2 lead, but Appalachian used a six-run fourth and added two more in the sixth for a 10-4 victory. In the loss, O'Hara drilled her first career homer.

TWICE AS NICE:
In Syracuse's 5-0 win against Elon, sophomores Corinne Ozanne and Danielle Chitkowski hit back-to-back homers in the fourth inning to turn a scoreless tie into a 4-0 SU lead. The following day at Campbell, the one-two punch was at it again in the fourth inning, this time bringing the Orange within 6-3 in a game Syracuse would eventually win 7-6.

OZANNE IN THE ZONE:
Sophomore Corinne Ozanne recorded the second multi-homer game of her career, joining only six other players in program history to accomplish the feat Ozanne set the school record with a three-homer game on April 14, 2013.

DANIELS NEARING STEALS RECORD:
With nine steals on the year senior Shirley Daniels now has 70 in her career - just one away from trying the school record of 71 set by her older sister Lisaira. Daniels currently ranks 16th among active Division I NCAA softball players in career steals and is eighth in stolen base percentage of .909 (70-77).

O'HARA PITCHES THIRD SHUTOUT:
For the third time in her first six starts into her career, freshman Sydney O'Hara threw a complete-game shutout with double-digit strikeouts. In addition to her no-hitter, O'Hara threw six-hit shutouts while striking out 10 apiece versus Nebraska-Omaha and at Elon. She is only one of four pitchers in Syracuse history to accomplish the feat at least three times in one season.

SCOUTING VIRGINIA:
The Cavaliers have lost 10 of their last 11 games, including a 1-7 start to Atlantic Coast Conference play. However, that lone win was a big one as Virginia upset No. 9 Florida State 11-9 as Marcy Bowdren hit a walk-off homer for the winner. In its other two ACC series, Virginia was swept by both NC State and Georgia Tech in three games and two games, respectively. Bowdren is the team leader with a .333 batting average and is second with three homers and nine RBIs. In the circle, Aimee Chapdelaine has started 20-of-21 contests this season, yielding an 8.18 earned average with four complete games and 27 strikeouts in 75.1 innings.

SERIES HISTORY:
The Orange returns to Charlottesville for the first time since 2011, though this time as conference foes. The two schools split a pair of games in Virginia on March 12 and 13, 2011. The Cavaliers took the first-ever meeting 2-1 and SU bounced back for a 13-8 win the following dat. Syracuse also won the most recent matchup, a 3-1 triumph in eight innings, on March 3, 2012 in Orlando, Fla.

LOOKING AHEAD:
After a month and a half on the road, Syracuse will make its way back to Central New York to host Georgia Tech in its home opener on Saturday, March 22 at 1 p.m. That will be the first game of a doubleheader with the series finale coming on Sunday, March 23 at 12 p.m.
