SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse women's rower Georgia Hamilton was named to the 2014 Pocock All-America Second Team by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) on Monday, finishing off a strong junior season leading her team to the program's highest final ranking in nine years.
Hamilton, who was named South First Team All-Region by the CRCA as well, becomes the 13th rower in SU history to be named an All-American. In addition, Hamilton was named a CRCA National Scholar Athlete, an All-ACC First Team honoree, and won the women's rowing award at the 2014 Cuse Awards.
This marks the first time since 2004 and 2005 that Syracuse has had All-Americans in consecutive seasons. Last year, Natalie Mastracci was named to the first team.
This honor caps off a successful season for Hamilton and head coach Justin Moore's Orange, finishing the 2014 season with a No. 19 ranking in the final CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll, the team's highest ranking since 2005. Hamilton rowed in the fifth seat of the varsity eight that finished third in its first ACC Championship, and was the fourth seat of the varsity eight that won both the Orange Challenge Cup and the Kittell Cup. She helped lead the Orange to a nine-year high national ranking of 16th in the April 9 CRCA Coaches Poll.
The CRCA's Pocock All-American teams recognize the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains on the national level in collegiate rowing. Nominated student-athletes are evaluated on the strength of their team's regional finish, coaches' recommendations and 2,000-meter erg score. Nominees must be eligible student-athletes who have competed in their teams' varsity boat in 75 percent of races this season.
