Orange goalkeeper ranked second in the league in goals-against average
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Orange junior goalkeeper Alex Bono was named to the Premier Development League (PDL) All-Eastern Conference Team last week. The four all-conference teams (Eastern, Western, Central, Southern) featured a total of 44 players and were selected in a vote of team managers.
Bono, who competed for Reading United AC, posted five shutouts and ranked second in the league with a 0.70 goals-against average. In addition, Bono was one of three finalists for the PDL Goalkeeper of the Year award, which was presented to William Thompson of FC Tucson on Aug. 2.
In 11 games for Reading, Bono was 7-1-2 with 51 saves to help the squad to a second-place finish behind the Jersey Express in the Eastern Conference's Mid-Atlantic Division.
A 2013 All-ACC performer, Bono ranks in the top 10 in several career goalkeeping categories at Syracuse after his first two seasons. He is second in goals-against average (0.93), eighth in save percentage (.788), third in shutouts (18), sixth in wins (23) and sixth in minutes played (3,468).
The PDL is the proven developmental leader in North American soccer's evolving tiered structure. It features 64 teams in four conferences throughout the United States and Canada and provides elite college players the opportunity to taste a higher level of competition while maintaining their eligibility.
