'Cuse Receives Votes in Preseason Poll

Orange one of eight ACC teams featured in initial NSCAA rankings
KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Coming off consecutive double-digit win seasons, the Syracuse men's soccer team is receiving votes in the 2014 NSCAA/Continental Tire Preseason Poll, released Wednesday, Aug. 6. The Orange garnered eight votes, tied with Northwestern for the No. 38 position.

One of the most experienced teams in the nation, the Orange returns 12 players that started at least half the matches in last year's 10-7-1 campaign, including top goal-scorer Emil Ekblom who finished with 10 goals on his way to All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors.
Syracuse was one of eight ACC teams listed in the poll, including five ranked squads. Defending national champion Notre Dame led the group, capturing the No. 1 preseason ranking. Virginia (No. 3), Wake Forest (No. 11), Louisville (No. 14) and North Carolina (No. 22) are also ranked to start the year.
Clemson (25 votes) and Duke (11 votes) joined the Orange in the receiving votes category.
Syracuse opens preseason training on Aug. 13 and the team's first exhibition is slated for Aug. 16 at home against Hartwick. The Orange begins the 2014 regular season on Aug. 29 versus Niagara at the SU Soccer Stadium.
