Cuse TV: Preseason Practice Day One
The Syracuse women's soccer team's preparations for the 2014 season are underway. The student-athletes reported to campus on Tuesday, August 5 and took the field for the first time on Wednesday, August 6.
"We have a deep squad this year and we're optimistic," said seventh-year head coach Phil Wheddon. "We're looking forward to a good preseason."
Syracuse finished the 2013 season with a 7-11-1 overall record and just missed qualifying for the ACC Tournament. The Orange was 3-9-1 in its first year in the league and faced three teams that advanced to the College Cup. Four ACC teams are ranked in the top five in the NSCAA preseason poll.
"Every team in the ACC has a game-changing player," Wheddon said. "We feel now we have some of those game-changing players. That's the next step for us. We lost five games 1-0 last year in the ACC. We hope that this year we can turn that around the other way.
The Orange opens the season at the Penn State Invitational where it will face Missouri on Friday, Aug. 22 and the host Nittany Lions on Sunday, Aug. 24. Syracuse hosts Connecticut in its home opener on Monday, Sept. 1 at 1 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium.
