
‘Cuse Falls In ACC Opener

NC State defeated the Orange in three straight sets on Friday night
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Orange took on NC State on Friday evening in its first ACC match of the season. NC State bested Syracuse, 3-0 (11-25, 19-25, 21-25). SU had no answer for NC State's attack as four of the Wolfpack hit .400 or better.
The Blow-By-Blow
In the first stanza, the Orange kept the score close until the score was 16-11 in favor of the Wolfpack. From that point in the set, NC State recorded nine straight points to put SU away.
The second set was closer as Monika Salkute pulled 'Cuse within two points with a kill to make the score 20-18. Perry Ramsey retaliated immediately with two straight kills and with the help of an attack error by SU, NC State found itself up 23-18. Syracuse only scored one more point in the set on a service error and was eventually finished off by a 25-19 score.
The Orange didn't fall easily in the third set either. Once SU found itself down 23-17, 'Cuse rallied to pull within three, making the score 23-20. Ramsey recorded the next kill, presenting match point but Silvi Uattara picked up one last kill until the setter, Maggie Speaks, converted on an attack to win NC State its 12th straight victory.
Orange Stat Pack
Salkute has elevated her play in the last few games and continued her dominance against NC State. She hit .353 on eight kills and recorded four digs and a block. Uattara also recorded eight kills on the night to go along with her nine digs and three blocks.
Valeriya Shaipova and Stacey Smith each recorded four kills each while Gosia Wlaszczuk finished with 18 assists. Lindsay McCabe led the way in blocks once again with six. SU's streak of out-blocking its opponents, recording 16 total blocks to NC State's 14.
A Look At The Wolfpack
Perry Ramsey and Kaitlyn Kearney stepped up for NC State as they recorded 14 and 12 kills respectively. Maggie Speaks also swung .400 with four kills and tallied 30 assists. All together NC State hit .287 and tallied 44 kills, 40 digs and eight aces.
Ranked Opponent On The Horizon
On Sunday, September 28 at 2:00 PM the Orange will take on its first ranked opponent of the season. Syracuse will face No. 12 North Carolina in an ACC matchup broadcast on ESPN3.
