Day finishes three blocks shy of triple-double
It's been over 30 years since Chris Palombi posted 20 points, 18 rebounds, and 14 blocks against Georgetown on Jan. 13, 1984, and while sophomore center Briana Day finished just three blocks shy of reaching the elusive triple-double milestone, she gave it another scare in her 11-point, 16-rebound and seven-block performance on Sunday.
Day paced the Orange to a 66-49 win over NC State for its fifth-straight ACC win.
"She was a beast down there," said head coach Quentin Hillsman. "Anything in the paint, she went and got it. I thought she handled herself really well. She had a big girl game down there with 16 rebounds and seven blocks.
Day's seven blocks tied her career high in the category, and is the third time this season she's hit the mark this season. She also added to her league lead in the category, averaging 3.4 rejections per game.
"I was just moving my feet and doing a good job of deciding when to go hard," Day said. "I go hard every time, but I think I'm just being smart about it so I don't foul."
Her 16 rebounds is also the third-most she's had this season, falling short of her career-high 19 against Duquesne and also her total of 17 versus South Carolina.
Next, Day will look to have another strong performance against one of the nation's top teams, when the Orange takes on No. 4 Louisville this Thursday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
