
Thomas, Team Canada Ready for Olympic Qualifier Semifinals

SANDY, Utah -- Former Orange standout Skylar Thomas looks to help his country qualify for the 2016 Olympics in the semifinal round of the CONCACAF Men's Soccer Olympic Qualifiers on Saturday as Team Canada faces off against Mexico. The match will take place at 6 p.m. Eastern time in Sandy, Utah.
Canada and the United States finished atop the group standings to advance to the semifinal phase. Canada lost to the U.S., 3-1, in the first match before defeating Panama, 3-1, and tying Cuba, 2-2. Thomas scored a goal in the victory against Panama and has been in the starting lineup for all three matches.
The winners of tomorrow night's semifinal games will automatically qualify for next year's Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The two teams that lose will play on Tuesday for third place, and the team that wins will square off against Colombia for the final spot in the Olympic tournament.
Thomas, who was drafted in the first round of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft by Toronto FC, started all 56 games in his collegiate career. He has scored three goals in 22 appearances in his first year with Toronto FC II, the United Soccer League affiliate of Toronto FC.
