Callahan Earns National Honors

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Redshirt Junior Liam Callahan tallied two assists in Syracuse's victory against Seattle last Sunday, catapulting it into the program's first appearance in the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament Elite Eight. His performance earned Callahan has gained national attention as he has been named to the National Team of the Week by College Soccer News' and Hero Sports News.

Callahan helped the Orange to a quick start when he served a corner kick into the box where it was headed into the goal by freshman Miles Robinson 1:30 into the game. This marked the earliest goal the Orange has scored in a match this season.

Callahan's second assist came in the 20th minute. He served a ball into the box from the left side, which senior Noah Rhynhart buried into the back of the net, giving Syracuse a 2-0 lead against the Redhawks. The Orange went on to a 3-1 victory for its first win in the Sweet 16 in three tries.

The Amherst, N.Y. native has tallied a career-high eight assists this season, which rank second on the team. Callahan is 29th in the nation in total assists and fourth in the ACC.

The Orange will compete in the Elite Eight against ACC opponent Boston College at the SU Soccer Stadium on Saturday, December 5 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for youth ages 18 and under. The first 400 Syracuse University students who arrive prior to 1:45 p.m. with a valid ID will receive free admission.
