Banbury, England native led the NJCAA with 33 goals in 2014
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior college superstar Ben Polk is the latest addition to the Syracuse men's soccer program, Orange head coach Ian McIntyre announced on Friday, Feb. 27. Polk led the nation last season with 33 goals for nearby Herkimer County Community College (HCCC) and was named the NJCAA Region III Player of the Year.
Â
Polk's addition raises the number of players in Syracuse's incoming class to 12. It's a group that is ranked No. 8 nationally by College Soccer News and No. 9 by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
Â
"Ben has been a prolific goal-scorer and he has the ability to stretch the opposition's defense with his pace and athleticism," McIntyre said. "He is a dynamic player who we feel can make a quick transition to the demands of soccer in the ACC."
Â
Polk scored eight game-winning goals and had four hat tricks in 2014 to lead the Generals to an 18-1-1 record and an appearance in the NJCAA semifinals. In all, he totaled an eye-popping 71 points on 33 goals and five assists last season.
Â
Polk follows in the footsteps of former Orange star Ted Cribley and rising senior Korab Syla as players who started their collegiate careers at HCCC before making the jump to Syracuse.
