Nine different players score for the Orange
Alexis Peterson, the Orange's leading scorer was her usual self. She posted 20 points and dished out five assists on Thursday night, but it was a balanced Syracuse attack that ultimately pushed Syracuse past No. 13/11 North Carolina 61-56.
Nine different players scored for the Orange, with Taylor Ford joining Peterson in double figures, scoring 12 points, including a late three that pushed the Orange up seven in the final two minutes. It was the third-straight game with 10 or more points for Ford.
"Our kids just really played hard and they competed and I thought that down the stretch we had a chance to fold as in the past we have kind of gave the games away there down the stretch in the last couple minutes of the game," said head coach Quentin Hillsman. "I thought our kids really buckled down and got some stops, got some key rebounds and some shots and that was really big for us."
Eleven different players saw the floor for 'Cuse, who took down its first ranked opponent of the season Thursday, despite a number of close calls earlier this year, with seven different players seeing double-digit minutes.
Cornelia Fondren finished with nine points, nine rebounds and five assists for an all-around solid performance, while Briana Day added 11 boards and four points for the Orange.
Syracuse picked up 19 offensive rebounds on the evening.
Brianna Butler (four), Diamond Henderson (four), Maggie Morrison (three), Bria Day (three) and Isabella Slim (two) also scored for 'Cuse.
The Orange will return to action on Sunday at Georgia Tech, with tipoff scheduled for 2 p.m.
