The fourth was a wild ride for pitchers on both sides as both offenses exploded for a combined 12 runs in the inning. Three straight doubles for Louisville scored five runs to take an 8-0 lead but Syracuse wasn't about to give up.
Doane kicked off the rally with a leadoff double and was later hit home along with Wambold on a home run by Ozanne. Back-to-back singles by O'Hara and Chitkowski immediately followed and in the next at-bat, Cater singled up the middle to score O'Hara. A single by Dombrowski loaded the bases, setting up a bases-clearing triple by Doane to make it an 8-7 ball game.
Louisville threw together a two-out rally in the fifth after Chitkowski turned a double play to prevent a bases loaded, no-outs situation. With a runner on second, the Cards doubled down the left field line and then late doubled with runners on second and third to bring in another pair. Louisville tacked on one more with a single through the left side to control a 12-7 advantage heading into the bottom of the inning.
After UofL scored another run in the sixth, 'Cuse responded with three runs to cut the deficit to three. The runs were due to another extra base hit by Doane as she doubled down the right field line to score Dombrowski and Dewes after Dombrowski had doubled and Dewes reached on an error. Wambold made it two-straight with an RBI double of her own to score Doane and bring the game to a 13-10 score heading to the seventh.
'Cuse couldn't hold off the Cards in the final inning as they scored two more to take a 15-10 lead. The Orange made one last push in the bottom of the inning when Doane reached second on an error by the left fielder and scored Dewes on the play, but the one run was all it could muster, falling to Louisville, 15-11.
