SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University men's soccer team added another talented player to its highly-touted recruiting class on Thursday, April 9 when head coach Ian McIntyre announced that Hendrik Hilpert will join the Orange for the 2015 season. Hilpert is the second goalie to sign with the Orange during this recruiting cycle, joining Austin Aviza.
Â
Hilpert's addition gives Syracuse 13 players in its incoming class, which also includes January enrollee Oskar Sewerin. Ranked No. 8 nationally by College Soccer News and No. 9 overall by TopDrawerSoccer.com, the group is the highest-rated recruiting class in McIntyre's Syracuse tenure.
Â
Hilpert is a native of Eiterfeld, Germany. He previously honed his skills in the top academies of Bundesliga clubs TSG Hoffenheim and Eintracht Braunschweig. Hilpert led Eintracht Braunschweig to the 2014 U-19 Regionalliga Championship and has represented his country on both the U-16 and U-17 German national teams.
Â
"Hendrik is an experienced goalkeeper who has played at a very high level for several years," McIntyre said. "He is an athletic, modern keeper who commands his area very well. With Hendrik, Austin and Patrick (Castle) we are very excited about the quality and depth we have at the position."
