
'Cuse Set for NCAA Regionals

19 members of the Orange look to earn entry to NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships
Nineteen members of the Orange will compete at the NCAA East Prelims this weekend, with the hopes of earning a spot in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon June 10-13.
The qualifying meet will begin on Thursday at the University of North Florida and conclude on Saturday, is one-of-two NCAA Preliminary meets which the NCAA Championship field is decided from.
Ranking the Orange
- The Syracuse men head into the NCAA Regional meet ranked No. 24 after a successful showing at the ACC Championships.
- The distance program at 'Cuse has been strong throughout the season under head coach Chris Fox. The cross country team finished fifth at the NCAA Championship and earned its fifth conference title in six seasons, while Martin Hehir earned All-America honors in the indoor season at 3,000-meters
10,000 Meters to Gold
-Â The Orange has nine members running in the 10,000m event at the 2015 NCAA Regional meet.
- Three of the top-four men's qualifiers in the 10,000m represent Syracuse -- Martin Hehir first), Dan Lennon (third) and Reed Kamyszek (fourth)
- Margo Malone is seeded second in the preliminaries of the women's, only one second behind Tennessee's Chelsea Blaase, with no other competitor posting a seed time within 37 seconds of the pair.
- Other Orange athletes with qualifying see times in the event include: Philo Germano (29th), Kevyn Hoyos (36th), Max Straneva (43rd) on the men's side and Maura Linde (15th), Jessie Petersen (16th) and Shaylyn Tuite (35th).
Just-yn Time
-Â Freshman Justyn Knight is seeded second in the preliminaries in the 5,000-meters event.
- Knight is ranked No. 6 in the NCAA and holds the Syracuse and Canadian Junior record in the 5,000 with a time of 13:34.86, which were set at the Payton Jordan Invitational.
Hehir Holds High Ranks
-Â Martin Hehir has remained at the top of the field in the 2014-15 track and cross country seasons.
- In addition to his top-seed at the East Regional by a full 11 seconds, he holds the second-fastest time in the 10,000-meters throughout the country.
- A national championship contender in the event, Hehir is looking for his third All-America honors of the year after earning the accolade in cross country and indoor track.
Malone Makes the Mark
-Â Margo Malone holds the sixth-best time in the NCAA in the 10k, running 32:29.89 at the Stanford Invitational.
- Malone enters the meet following a gold-medal performance in the event at the ACC Championships.
- She is seeded second in the preliminaries. No other runner comes within 37 seconds of Malone and the top seed.Â

 Hurdles Depth
-Â Senior Donald Pollitt and sophomore Freddie Crittenden III will compete in the 110-meter hurdles at Regionals.
- Pollitt II is seeded seventh in the event, and Crittenden III holds the 16th seed, less than two-tenths of a second apart.
- The duo finished third and fourth respectively at the ACC Championships.
Harrison on a Fast Track to First
-Â Shaina Harrison is seeded 11th in the 100-meter dash for the Regionals preliminaries [11.36].
- Harrison is peaking at the right time, posting her season-best time at the ACC Championships, where she earned silver.
- Harrison won the 60m dash at the ACC Indoor Championships, earning the first female ACC Championship for Syracuse in any sport.
'Cuse in the Classroom
-Â Martin Hehir, Reed Kamyszek and Max Straneva each were named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team this week.
- The 'Cuse trio occupied three of the 10 spots on the team.
- Hehir is a three-time honoree and Kamyszek has twice been named to the all-district team.
- The three student-athletes will now have an opportunity to make the Capital One Academic All-America Team, which will be selected from the pool of the eight all-district teams
