
Alexander Invited to Team Canada Tryouts

Preparing for the Pan Am Games and FIBA Americas Championship
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Former Syracuse University women's basketball player Kayla Alexander '13 is one of 22 players that have been selected to participate in the first phase of tryouts for the Canadian women's basketball national team. Tryouts and training camp will take place at the Saville Community Centre in Edmonton from May 10-24.
At the completion of training camp, the team will head to Spain and France for a six-game European tour, facing the likes of Poland, Great Britain, Italy, Spain, and France. The squad will then return to Canada for the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto. The final Pam Am team roster will be announced in June.
Following the Pan Am Games, the team will compete for a berth in the 2016 Olympic Games at the 2015 FIBA Americas Championship. Edmonton will serve as the host site for the FIBA Americas Championship, which will run from August 9-16.
Alexander is one of the most decorated players in Syracuse women's basketball history. A 2013 Associated Press All-America Honorable Mention, Alexander left Syracuse as the all-time leader in points (2,024), field goals made (736), free throws made (552), free throws attempted (750), rebounds (996), blocked shots (350), and games played (140). The Milton, Ontario native was selected with the eighth overall pick of the 2013 WNBA Draft by the San Antonio Silver Stars, the first player in program history to be selected in the first round.
