SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- College Soccer News has released its 2015 Team and Recruiting Review for the Orange on its website, CollegeSoccerNews.com. The site gave Syracuse's incoming recruiting class five stars.
The Orange is coming off its most successful season in school history. Syracuse posted a 16-4-1 record and won a share of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Atlantic Division title. The Orange earned the top spot in the national rankings for the first time in school history and earned the No. 9 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Syracuse advanced to the Sweet 16 where it lost to Georgetown. Junior Chris Nanco is the Orange's top returning scorer. He totaled 12 points on five goals and two assists in 2014. The Orange welcomes 13 newcomers this season, including goalkeepers Austin Aviza (Medway, Mass.) and Hendrik Hilpert (Eiterfeld, Germany), who will battle for the starting job vacated by Alex Bono, who was the 2014 ACC Defensive Player of the Year and the sixth overall pick in last year's MLS Draft.
Syracuse will host Georgetown on Saturday, Aug. 15 in an exhibition match at the SU Soccer Stadium at 4 p.m. as part of the Fan Fest. The event will also include an open practice for the football squad as well as activities for kids all of ages.
