
Orange Fourth in NFHCA Preseason Poll

Syracuse received seven first place votes
The Syracuse field hockey team was slotted fourth in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Preseason Poll, which was released on Tuesday.
It marks the 77th-straight week the Orange has been featured in the 20-team poll dating back to the start of the 2008 season.
Syracuse was one-of-four teams to receive first place votes. Defending National Champion UConn was tabbed as the preseason favorite, with 27 first place votes and 1,060 points. North Carolina followed closely with 1,042 points and 12 first place votes, Maryland received 999 points and 11 first place votes, while 'Cuse collected 973 points with seven first place votes. ACC rival Duke rounded out the top five with 837 points.
Syracuse is slated to square off with 10 of the 20 ranked teams during the regular season, including No. 6 Stanford in the season opener on Friday. The Orange will also face No. 2 North Carolina (Sept. 12), No. 5 Duke (Oct. 24), No. 9 Virginia (Sept. 25), No. 11 Wake Forest (Oct. 17), No. 12 Louisville (Oct. 9), No. 13 Boston College (Sept. 19), No. 15 Princeton (Oct. 18), No. 18 UMass (Sept. 6) and No. 20 Boston University (Sept. 27) in 2015.
The Orange made its third final four appearance in 2014 and reached the national title game for the first time in program history. The 2015 slate gets underway on Friday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. eastern at Stanford.
